(2008 District 85P Toastmasters Spring Conference)

两年前，刚加入Toastmasters不久的Peter参加了第一届中国区Toastmasters convention，作为志愿者，他的工作是把门和领位。

大会的顺利召开当然离不开这些志愿者们，所以会议的最后他们都被邀请到台上，进行奖励。那一刻Peter下了一个决定：

我一定要再次站在这个舞台上，作为演讲者，而不是volunteer！

两年过去了，Peter果然站在了这个舞台上，并且是以华东区第一名的身份参加全国比赛。6名选手，只有Peter一名中国人，竞争极其残酷。

Peter以Gift为题目，开篇讲的就是两年前的决定，和一路走来的困惑和努力。演讲的最后，他拿出了那件富有含义的T-shirt，号召大家去发现属于自己的天赋。

Peter最终获得了亚军，冠军是一名40多岁的职业speaker/trainer......

有趣的是，今年是小小第一次参加convention，也加入了志愿者的行列。会议尾声的时候同样被邀请到台上，面对黑压压的观众，我也体会到Peter当年的心情（这是我从台上拍的照片）。

我也许了一个和Peter一样的心愿：

我也要作为演讲者站在这个舞台上！

I love what it says about gifts which I quote from Peter's speech:

" We were all given magnificent "birth gifts" that would remain largely unopened except through your own decision and efforts." 

Many people've missed opportunities of being a musician, artist or even Olympic champion because they thought they lacked gifts, then they stopped. I have to say those people are mostly wrong. We all have hidden gifts since born and just need to explore them, it is never too late even you are old enough to have grandchildren! It is your decision and efforts.

It's never too late to find your gifts, my friends.
